Pranlal Bhogilal Inducted Into FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame
Recently, the founder of the Vintage & Classic Car Club of India (VCCCI), the late Pranlal Bhogilal achieved a remarkable milestone, induction into the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition from the International Federation of Historic Vehicles not only honors Bhogilal's legacy but also underscores the vital role India plays in preserving the global automotive heritage.
FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens or International Federation of Historic Vehicles), is a group that works with UNESCO to conserve, preserve and promote historic cars. It also promotes the proper usage of vehicles that are older than thirty years.
The FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame, inaugurated in 2021, honors individuals who have significantly impacted the automobile industry. In 2023, out of over 30 nominees, FIVA selected nine distinguished personalities for this honor, marking the first-ever inclusion of an Indian automotive COLLECTOR - Pranlal Bhogilal.

One of the first places I visited soon after I had moved to Bombay (Mumbai now) in 1985 was the stretch of road known as Walkeshwar Road, specifically the section in front of the fortress-like building known as Daskot. The only place you could peek inside was the basement garage at street level, where you could get a glimpse of a piece of a vintage car through the narrow grille.
It would be another two years – after I launched India’s first newsstand auto magazine Indian Auto – and several attempts at getting an appointment before I finally gained access to that palace, which reputedly housed one of the finest collections of historic vehicles in India.
Getting to finally meet Pranlal Bhogilal (1937-2011), India’s pioneer collector and auto enthusiast, was one of the more important moments in my life, as much as discovering the amazing cars that were parked at Daskot. Vintage car czar Pranlal Bhogilal passes away
Bhogilal was cremated in Mumbai in the presence of wife Bhartidevi, 67, close friends and family. His daughter Chamundeshwari, 32, lit the pyre defying Hindu rituals.
The globally-acclaimed millionaire and Guiness World Record holder had created history by throwing open his prized personal collection of classic cars to the public at his sprawling estate in Kathwada in Ahmedabad.The museum 'Auto World' remained closed for a day in his memory. It reopened on Thursday.
"The loss is irreparable. Pranlal Bhogilal was a visionary who gave us a unique car museum that has become a brand in itself. He was one of the greatest connoisseurs of art and heritage. He was a humble human being," said his friend Mukesh Patel.
