Once he graduated high school in 1913, his father wanted him to become a baker but Adi had other ideas in mind. Him and Fritz Zehlein (childhood friend), were wanting to pursue their life in sports. They were both big into athletics and were fascinated in a handful of sports that they would play regularly. However, often in their free time they would become sprinters, football striker, or occasionally a fighter.

In the nineteen sixties, adidas numbered 550 employees and was the world’s largest producer of sport shoes. By the end of the decade, the brand with the three stripes operated 16 factories and produced 22,000 pair of shoes per day. Nevertheless, Adi Dassler remained modest. He never sought the spotlight and seldom gave interviews. He was more interested in tinkering with new inventions, developing new ideas and putting them to practical use. Throughout this creative process, he approached his work in a precise, earnest, structured and always creative manner. Over the years, he registered hundreds of patents to protect against competitors, Puma being one them. His best-known innovations: the continuous improvement of the screw-in cleats for football shoes, replaceable spikes for track athletes and the use of nylon soles to drastically reduce weight. Adolf "Adi" Dassler (3 November 1900 – 6 September 1978) was a German cobbler, inventor and businessman who founded the German sportswear company Adidas. He was also the younger brother of Rudolf Dassler, founder of Puma. Dassler was an innovator in athletic shoe design and one of the early promoters who obtained endorsements from athletes to drive sales of his products. As a result of his concepts, Adi Dassler built the largest manufacturer of sportswear and equipment. At the time of his death, Adidas had 17 factories and annual sales of one billion marks.[1]
