Our Story
Our founder, Dr. John R. Christopher had great success helping people overcome health issues. He was also a master teacher and preferred to teach people how to take care of themselves and support them in that process. As he grew in popularity he began to transition from teaching health principles patient by patient and started to lecture to larger groups.
Dr. Christopher saw the need for more people to understand the principles of vitalism that he used in his practice. He spoke of having an herbalist in every home and a master herbalist in every community. That is an undertaking too large to be accomplished with one on one teaching or even lectures to large groups. It would take more depth of training to create a network of people who could help others utilize these principles. In 1953 Dr. Christopher established The School of Natural Healing to teach seminars for students to be able to learn and then go on to teach and help others around them.

Founder
In his youth, Dr. Christopher began his own study on natural healing when he saw its positive results in healing his mother of dropsy. His enthusiasm increased when he cured himself of cancer using natural methods. Dr. Christopher, after his experience as a supervisor of a medical dispensary during World War II, decided to become an herbal practitioner. In 1946, he graduated with a Master of Herbology under Dr. H. Knowles at the Dominion Herbal College in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Two years later he received his Naturopathic Doctor degree from the Institute of Drugless Therapy in Tama, Iowa. He received an Herbal Pharmacist degree under the renowned Dr. Edward Shook.
Hailed as America’s foremost herbalist, Dr. Christopher developed a program to pass on his methodology and founded the School of Natural Healing in 1953. His published works include Herbal Home Health Care, Every Woman’s Herbal, and his most renowned work, School of Natural Healing.

American herbalist (1909–1983)
John Raymond Christopher (November 25, 1909 – February 6, 1983) was an American herbalist and naturopath.[1] He was known for his numerous lectures and publications on herbs. He developed over 50 herbal formulas used worldwide, and founded The School of Natural Healing in Springville, Utah.[2][3]
Biography
Christopher was born to European parents. He was left in a Salt Lake City, Utah orphanage and adopted by Leander and Melissa Christopher. Born with advanced rheumatoid arthritis, he endured excruciating pain as a child, and sometimes walked with a cane or used a wheelchair. He also developed hardening of the arteries, and a nearly fatal case of croup. Doctors of his day stated he would never reach the age of thirty.
As a child, he showed interest in being a doctor who would heal people with natural remedies.
In 1945 he was drafted into the military and was stationed at Fort Lewis, where he was allowed to experiment with herbs. After his military service he moved to Can
