As Executive Director, John Duda brings years of experience helping create and scale radical institutions and social movement infrastructure to The Real News. Before joining TRNN, Duda worked for nine years at The Democracy Collaborative, an international research institute working to develop practical models for a post-capitalist economy, where he served as Director of Communications. During his tenure, the organization’s staff grew by a factor of five, developing into an essential transatlantic think tank advancing democratic economic alternatives. Duda holds a PhD in Intellectual History from Johns Hopkins University for his work on the intersections of radical social movements, digital media makers, and the sciences of complexity and self-organization; a Master of Logic from the Universiteit van Amsterdam; and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a founding worker-owner at Red Emma’s, Baltimore’s largest worker cooperative, created in 2004, where his work focused on developing the project’s extensive event and programming

their outstanding contributions to the chemical engineering literature and in 1989 the Charles M.A. Stine Award in Materials Engineering and Sciences in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the science, technology, and education of materials science and engineering. Also in 1989, Larry was selected the American Society of Engineering Education’s Chemical Engineering Lecturer. In 1994, he was made a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and was awarded the AIChE Warren K. Lewis Award, which is given in recognition of distinguished and continuing contributions to chemical engineering education.

In 1998, Larry was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering, and in 2006, in his honor, a $2 million endowment, The Dow Chemical Company and Larry Duda Excellence in Chemical Engineering Fund, was presented to the Department of Chemical Engineering at Penn State. Arkema Inc. has also endowed the Larry Duda Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Performance in Chemical Engineering at Penn State.

East Lansing - John Louis Duda, East Lansing, age 59, a loving and caring son, brother, uncle and friend passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019. John was born on May 3, 1959, the son of David Duda and Irene (Duda) Ayles. John attended Fowler High School and went on to graduate from Michigan State University. After graduation he became employed at the Diocese of Lansing. John loved dance and was a very talented performer. He left the Diocese upon earning a scholarship to study dance at the University of Arizona. He later returned to East Lansing and became employed at Michigan State University where he spent most of his career. Upon retiring from MSU, he worked part time for the Loomis Law Firm in Lansing. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Surviving are his mother, Irene Ayles; Stepfather, Robert Ayles; his brother, Tony (Sue) Duda; his sisters, Tina Duda and Valerie Duda; his stepsisters, Robbin (Tom) Clickner and Karen (Dennis) Bartlett; his stepbrother, Robert Ayles Jr; nephews, Matthew (Erin) Duda, and Patrick Duda; and nieces, Chelsey Duda
