Susan Fennell is a Canadian politician, who served as the mayor of Brampton, Ontario from 2000 to 2014. She was also the founder and commissioner of the National Women's Hockey League. In 2021, the City of Brampton named the Susan Fennell Sportsplex after her.

Background

In 1953, Susan Fennell was born Susan Biefer[1][2] in Saint-Laurent, a borough of Montreal, Quebec.[3] She completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in environmental science from the University of Toronto at Mississauga in 1977.[4][5] She and her husband John have two adult children, Michael and Joey.[5] Before entering politics she worked for 11 years for Toledo Scale.[6]

When Susan Winter Fennell was born on 24 November 1853, in Brookfield, Orange, Vermont, United States, her father, William Fennell, was 31 and her mother, Barbara Winter, was 27. She married Mansur Abbott Stone on 18 May 1887, in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son. She lived in Châteauguay, Châteauguay, Quebec, Canada in 1881 and Auburn, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States in 1900. Né à Saint-Laurent, maintenant un arrondissement de Montréal au Québec, Fennell complète une formation en science et en science de l'environnement à l'Université de Toronto à Mississauga en 1977[4],[5]. Elle et son mari John sont parents de deux enfants devenus adultes, Michael et Joey[5]. Avant d'entrer en politique, elle travaille pour Mettler Toledo pendant 11 ans[6].

Élu conseillère du district #3 en 1988, elle devient mairesse de la ville en 2000. Sous son impulsion, elle participe à la création de la Ligue nationale de hockey féminin et sert comme commissaire jusqu'à sa retraite en [7].
