Jogi is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language period drama film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and co-written by Sukhmani Sadana. It was released on Netflix on 16 September 2022 and is set amidst the backdrop of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, with a cast including Diljit Dosanjh, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Hiten Tejwani and Amyra Dastur.[1][2][3]

Upon its release on Netflix, Jogi received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the performances (especially of Ayyub's, Mishra's and Dosanjh's), direction, cinematography, background score, editing, production design, and themes. However, the screenplay and depiction of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots received a polarizing response.

Plot

The film is set in Delhi's eastside neighbourhood of Trilokpuri, and depicts a three-day period in the immediate aftermath of the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 31 October 1984, four months after Operation Blue Star. Santhosh Jogi (1975 – 13 April 2010) was an Indian film actor and singer who acted in more than 30 films in Malayalam cinema. He marked his debut in a 2004 Malayalam movie, Two Wheeler and played the main antagonist in Mayavi.

Personal life

Jogi was born in Eravimangalam to Purathu Sethumadhavan and Komattil Malathi Amma. He completed his education from Vyasa College, Thrissur. He started his career as a singer at local stage programmes. He married Jijy on 24 June 2001 and had two daughters, Chithralekha and Kapila.[1]

Death

Santhosh Jogi was found dead in his friend's flat at Thrissur on 13 April 2010. His body was found hanging from a fan, and the police stated that the suicide was due to family problems.[2][3]
