Djeli Fodé Kouyaté is a nephew of Mory Kanté. Son of Mama Kanté and Djelyden Kabinet Kouyaté, he is born a griot. He is not to be confused with singer and kora player, the late Fodé Kouyaté from Mali.
Le djeli de Kissifaramaya, as he is called, is known for his songs addressing popular issues of Guinean life. Apart from music, he has been active defending the cause of the refugee camps in the South-East of Guinea, where 100,000s refugees from neighbouring Sierra Leone lived under precarious conditions. His conscience awakening lyrics and constant production of albums lead to his nomination of honorary ambassador of Afrique-Aide-Afrique by the Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade.
In Guinea, he is seen as one of the biggest contemporary singers. Until now, he was hardly known outside of Guinea, but this changed soon. For example, he was one of the showcases of the Nuits d'Afrique Festival in Montréal, Canada in July 2002. In a

Djeli Fodé Kouyaté, né en à Kissidougou, dans la savane guinéenne, est un auteur compositeur, arrangeur et chanteurguinéen[1].
Biographie
[modifier | modifier le code]Il est né en 1964 à Kissifaramaya dans la préfecture de Kissidougou en République de Guinée, il est le neveu du griot guinéen Mory Kanté.
Fodé est le descendant du GriotBalla Fasséké Kouyaté, l'un des contemporain de Soumangourou Kanté, Roi de Sosso. Il est né de l’union de Mama Kanté et de Djélyden Kabinet Kouyaté, une famille griotte[2].
À 9 ans, il interprétait toutes les chansons de sa mère. Arrivé en 1976 à Conakry pour les études primaires, Fodé se démarquera sur le plan musical en 1978.
Après le décès de sa mère Hadja Mama Kanté le 12 septembre 1982 à Medine en Arabie Saoudite, Fodé rejoint sa sœur à Fria pour une formation professionnelle à l’usine d’alumines de kimbo.
Carrière Musicale
