Personal Life

Charles Haskell Revson was born on October 11, 1906 in Somerville, Massachusetts, outside of Boston, to Samuel Morris and Jeanette Weiss Revson. He grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, with one older brother, Joseph, and one younger brother, Martin. Both of Revson's parents were Jewish emigrants from Russia. His father relocated to the United States in his early twenties to avoid being drafted into the Russian army; his mother had arrived in the country as an infant. Revson's father (whom all three sons referred to as "the Major") was employed as a cigar roller for R. G. Sullivan Company and his mother worked off and on as a saleswoman at a dry goods store. Charles Haskell Revson (October 11, 1906 – August 24, 1975) was an American businessman and philanthropist. He was best known as a pioneering figure in the American cosmetics industry as the person who created the first pigment-based nail polish and founded and managed Revlon through five decades.
