Alastair Miller

Dr. Alastair Miller, is a semi-retired infectious diseases physician. He was a founding member of the British Association for CFS/ME (BACME) and served as Principal Medical Adviser from 2010-2015 for Action for ME.[1] His main clinical interests are blood borne viruses, bone and joint infection and CFS/ME.[2]

During his career he was:[3]

  • Consultant Physician in the Tropical & Infectious Disease Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital
  • Honorary Fellow at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine 2005 until May 2014.
  • Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Institute of Infection and Global Health at Liverpool University
  • Consultant in the West Midlands and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Infectious Disease at Birmingham University, prior to Liverpool University
  • Worked with the Royal Marines in Kurdistan after the first Gulf War and was a consultant and Professor of Medicine in the Royal Navy, where he established a multidisciplinary team for CFS management. He left the Navy as a Surgeon Commander in 1995.

    As Principal Advisory Consultant for Kordia’s specialist cyber security division Aura Information Security, Alastair is responsible for helping a wide range of organisations transform their approach to security. His experience spans more than two decades in information security across both enterprise and government. 

    Alastair started his career at British Telecom in the United Kingdom.  Since moving to New Zealand, he has held key security roles with Dimension Data, Spark and was most recently Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at NSP.  

    His expertise spans a wide range of security related fields including cloud security architecture, security operations centres (SOC) / SIEM, privacy and governance.  He has numerous qualifications in the advisory space including CISM, CISSP, CIPM, CRISC and CGEIT.  He also has particular expertise in the specific data security needs of the healthcare industry.

    Alisdair Joseph MILLER

    It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alisdair Joseph Miller, who left us peacefully at the age of 71, on December 13, 2024, at St. Peter's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. Born in Helensburgh, Scotland, on November 12, 1953.

    Alisdair will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, Cheryl, and their beloved daughter, Jennifer. Son of the late Jack and Harriet Miller. Brother of John (deceased) and Inge, Robert (Sharon), and David (Krista). He was a much-loved brother-in-law to Howard and Margaret Holt and a cherished son-in-law of Barbara and Howard (deceased) Holt. Loving uncle to Andrew, Brian, Mark, Keith, Drew, Bryce, Christine and Stephen. Great-uncle to Greggory, Iseult, Cole and Mason.

    Alisdair will be missed by his close-knit friends who enjoyed football, canoeing and spending time at the cottage.

    Alisdair was an active volunteer in our community. Most recently he was known for his hard work with the Hamilton Santa Claus Parade, Hamilton Sparta Soccer Club, and Cancer Assistance Program. Alisdair retired from Joseph
