Dave has performed throughout North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, UK, and Europe and appeared at huge festivals such as Bonnaroo (USA), Glastonbury (UK), Alive Festival (Portugal), Nuke Festival (Austria), Blues and Roots (Australia), Austin City Limits (U.S.).  He has also played major television performances including “Live at the Chapel” in Australia, and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in Los Angeles. He has also recorded with Xavier Rudd on the film score for the major motion picture “Surfer, Dude”, starring Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Willie Nelson.

Dave attended York University (Toronto, Canada) and Berklee (Boston, USA) and has studied with Bob Tamagni, John Ramsey, Bob Weiner, Trichy Sankaran, and Gary Tomlin.

Dave currently is performing with Nine Mile, Brian MacMillan, Dayna Manning, Trent Severn, and Danny Michel as well as keeping up a busy schedule of sessions, teaching, and other musical endeavors. Tommy Thomas: Three years ago, I started a tradition on the podcast. I’m interviewing someone from the music industry for the episode being released the week of Christmas. My logic is that most people probably aren’t doing much professional development this week. And rather than not have a release, I would default to something that is near and dear to my heart. I started taking piano lessons when I was seven. In high school, I played in a local garage band. In college, I sang folk music, and, in my twenties, I sang with a bluegrass group in Birmingham.

A career pianist, David L Tolley first made his splash in public television during an impromptu performance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Unbeknownst to Johnny, David was born a musician. A native of Columbus, Ohio and the seventh of eight children, David grew up in a family that loved music. He began to play the piano at age five, and started taking formal lessons at the age of seven. Pursuing music throughout his childhood, David graduated as valedictorian from Ohio's first Performing Arts High School and then finished a double Bachelor's in Piano Performance and in Music Composition, and a Masters of Music in Composition at The Ohio State University. David started his Doctorate at OSU but felt a strong tug on his heart to move to the entertainment capital of the world, Los Angeles. Packing up all of his belongings into his VW Rabbit, David headed west.

His career launched successfully, and in time, his work would include a project for Steven Spielberg, as well as all of the new original music for the DISNEYLAND theme parks in Paris and Tokyo. He has also written nin
