Daniel (profeta)

Daniel (en hebreo: דָּנִיּאֵל; en árabe: دانيال) é o profeta, autor e protagonista principal do Libro de Daniel, que se acha incluído tanto no Tanak como na Biblia.^[1]

No libro de Ezequiel noméase certo Daniel como unha persoa de excepcional sabedoría e rectitude (Ez. 14: 14, 20 e 28: 3). Tamén aparecen mencionados outras dúas personaxes co mesmo nome, a saber: Daniel, fillo de David (1 Cr 3:1 e 2 Sam 3:3) e Daniel fillo de Itamar, de familia sacerdotal, un dos exiliados que retornaron con Esdras en 458 a.C. (Esd 8:2).

Significado do nome

O nome consta de dúas partes: o primeiro segmento provén do verbo דין (din) "xulgar", "contender" ou "alegar" e a porción final é אל (O), abreviatura de "Elohim"; 'Deus', 'divindade'. A partícula י (i) foi interpretada tanto como un hiriq, denotando pertenza, ou como un iode posesivo de primeira persoa (como no hebreo moderno).^[2] Polo tanto Daniel adoita traducirse como "Deus é o meu Xuíz" ou "xuízo de Deus". Congonhas is a small historic city at 75 km south of Belo Horizonte, along the ‘Estrada Real’ to Rio de Janeiro. The city is well known for the statues of Brazilian artist Aleijadinho.

Amós, who lived in the eighth century B.C., was one of the earliest prophets. He was chosen to warn the Israeli people of the impending doom that was awaiting them.

Statues of twelve prophets carved from soap stone are located in front of Santuário do Bom Jesus Matosinhos. Aleijadinho had sculpted them between 1795 and 1805. Most left is the statue of prophet Amos.
