Nottingham boxing legend Carl Froch is to open new Alto bar - at former Rocket at Saltwater

Nottingham boxing legend Carl Froch is to open a new bar at The Cornerhouse.

The Cobra has revealed his plans for the former Rocket at Saltwater nightspot on the top floor of the landmark site.

Alto - set to open this summer - will boast four new bars and a newly designed rooftop terrace

The new bar is part of a joint venture with John Glover and Marc Brough, who have a wealth of previous experience in the bar and restaurant scene.

The ex-super middleweight, who retired in July 2015 having become a world champion twice and famously knocking out rival George Groves in 2014, gave a sneak preview of what's happening at the venue on an Instagram story last night.

Tables and chairs have gone and the fixtures and fittings are being removed by workmen - including internal walls. The refurbishment comes just days after the bar, which opened in 2002, announced its closure on Twitter.

Alto will offer cocktails and an exciting new menu.

Carl Froch's delight as he wins fight of his life in front of hometown crowd

CARL FROCH became a three-time world champion last night as he produced the fight of his life to destroy IBF super-middleweight title-holder Lucian Bute.

It was a stunning display by the 34-year-old who revealed he planned to call time on his career if the previously undefeated Canadian had won.

After knocking his opponent out in the fifth round in front of an ecstatic home crowd in Nottingham, Froch said: “This fight was all or nothing for me.

“I was going to announce my retirement if I lost, that’s how close I was.

“After losing to Andre Ward last year I was very deflated. Don’t get me wrong I was beaten by a better man then but I was here tonight to put right a wrong.

“The pundits wrote me off. The bookies wrote me and I was the big underdog but that just made me more determined.

“I was here to push on, claim this IBF title – and that’s what I’ve done. When I have Rob McCracken in my corner, nothing can go wrong. I listened to him and was totally focused.”

Froch had twice held the WBC belt but

Merriness, brothera and sisters

Whatever you may be doing tomorrow, whether you are devouring the flesh of the inferior with your most prolific clan members, or refusing to take your medication and spending the day curled up under the bed covers and screaming your deceased mother's name, I wish you well. I wish you peace, joy or whatever it semenis you desire. Unless you desire Gwyneth Paltrow. I have dibs.

I will be taking my three ungrateful middle aged sons to tesco and shooting each of them between the eyes. It will be a pleasant day and we shall enjoy ourselves.

Though I am not a relentless reader poster, a historic scholar, a black labelled wum or anything especially significant on these boards, and though these boards do not take up a great deal of my time, I do value what I get from them. Whether I'm on the bus with little else to distract me from the continuous ebbing away of my life, or just fancy catching up on some boxing matters, and often being amused and educated, the input of each of you does add a little to my day every now and then, and for that I wish you
