The unveiling of Gollapudi Maruthi Rao’s Magnum Opus, his autobiography entitled AMMA KADUPU CHALLAGA was inaugurated at a glittering function at Chakra Indian Cuisine, Irvine on 26th July 2008. Several literary lovers and well wishers attended the gathering. The Editor of Internet magazine Kaumudi.net, Kiran Prabha introduced MaruthiRao and Mr.Sarath Kamineni unveiled the book.

Gollapudi Maruthi Rao explained vividly the inspiration and origin of his book. The members of the gathering interacted with the guest at length. Well known writer and novelist Balabhadrapatruni Ramani joined the gathering and spoke about the present day trends of Telugu Films. Renowned film director Selvamani and budding film maker of Hollywood Bala Rajasekharuni spoke about Maruthi Rao and the present day trends of Indian films. Nandan Kumar Potluri who organized the event thanked Ravi Koneru, who graciously lent the venue and arranged the refreshments as also all the participants of the evening.

Gollapudi Maruthi Rao breathes his last

The ever-versatile and popular actor, writer, journalist, theatre personality and screenwriter Gollapudi Maruthi Rao is no more. He was 80 years old when he passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Thursday. His wife Sivakama Sundari was beside him when Gollapundi passed away.

One of the best known writers in Telugu literary world and a good Telugu cinema writer, Gollapudi had a long history in both these worlds. Born on April 14, 1939 in Vizianagarm, Andhra Pradesh, Gollapudi completed his studies in Visakhapatnam and did his graduation in B.Sc from Andhra University. He began writing playwrights and was attached to theatre since childhood.

After graduating from college in 1959, Gollapudi joined as assistant editor in a Telugu newspaper, and later joined the All India Radio (AIR), Vijayawada and worked across Hyderabad, Sambalpur, Chennai and Kadapa to retire as an assistant station director.

Gollapudi Maruti Rao is an Indian film actor, theatre actor, screenwriter, dramatist, playwright, and dialogue writer known for his works in Telugu Cinema, Theatre arts and Telugu Literature. He has acted in over 230 Telugu films. His noted literary works and plays, like Rendu Rellu Aaru, Patita, Karuninchani Devatalu, Mahanatudu, Kaalam Venakku Tirigindi, Aasayaalaku Sankellu, have won numerous State Awards.

He was a member of the Script Scrutiny Committee of National Film Development Corporation and served as a Jury Member at International Film Festival of India for Indian Panorama section in 1996.
